The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has completed the construction of the Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre, which is located at the intersection of North Parade and Church Street, downtown Kingston. The construction of the centre has added to the cultural facilities already located in downtown Kingston.

With the historic Ward Theatre, Liberty Hall and the St. William Grant Park in proximity, it was anticipated that the development of the Cultural Centre in this location would enable the transformation of North Parade into Kingston’s Cultural District. This was a long-held aim of development plans for the City.

The project began during July 2009 when lands where purchased on behalf of the Government of Jamaica based on the request from the Government of Venezuela.
